This hospital is absolutely ridiculous. Family and I have come there for years. The last time I was there, my mom came in for Lyme disease. She was violently ill. She was seen somewhat quickly in the ER however once she went back there it was one unprofessional act after another. They didn't have enough rooms for patients and had some right in the middle of the hallway. My mom had an IV in her hand which she had complained of it hurting her for well over an hour. She was practically in tears because no one would listen to her. I even went out in the hall multiple times and spoke to the girls at the front desk and they kept saying the nurse was busy. You have a patient who is in pain and medical assistants who can absolutely take out an IV but you just sit there and talk to your coworkers?? On top of how terrible she was feeling from the illness, she had rude medical staff telling her to wait. To add fuel to the fire while my mom was waiting for someone to take the IV out of her hand, the staff was eating. RIGHT IN FRONT OF SICK PATIENTS! I also work for a medical center and know eating in a clinical setting is against hospital policy especially something like a salad which gives off an odor. Once the IV was finally taken out, by the time we got to the checkout desk which is just a short distance away, my mother was bleeding through the gauze. I have never seen bleeding happen that bad before solely from taking out an IV. SSH may not be all that bad for outpatient/surgical visits. but the ED is absolutely terrible. I will not have my mother, any other family member, or friend go to this facility from this experience. I'd give 0 stars if I could still post my review. (3 weeks ago)

Excellent maternity ward- caring, compassionate, knowledgeable team of midwives, nurses and doctors. Was able to have a healing unmedicated second birth thanks to my midwife- Judy, and nurse, Michelle. They advocated for me, supported me- told me I could do it when I didn’t think I could, and safely delivered my little girl. The ward itself is clean, large and comfortable. (a month ago)

So the review depends on what part of the hospital you are in. I am grateful for all the hard work of EMTs, doctors and nurses alike, but the emergency room wait seems very high. Even when there aren’t a lot of visible patients, there seems to be a long wait time between when you check in and are checked out. Also, while in the ER you may go past the doors but wait outside in the hallway on a bed for hours on end. The birthing unit was a completely different story. My youngest daughter was born here and the care and service were great. (3 months ago)

The ED is a joke here, they don't acknowledge your issues or you in general, put you in the hallway and walk by not even asking if you are okay? Do you need a blanket? On top of that the nurses sit around and just chat about their lives or even mock patients and talk bad about them. Always stuff their faces while people sit on bedpans. I thought this was the only decent hospital left in the southshore but I'm wrong, they suck no compassion for patients, their all in it for the money not helping the sick , which is pretty scary in my book! and don't ever get seen by Stephanie Mcauley worst bed side manner talks down to you like you don't know your own health concerns, she misdiagnosed me and I told her and she said well I think it this , guess what my surgeon that did the surgery confirmed I was right. Horrible ER experience. If you can survive the 5 hour plus wait your stronger than you think. This place will never have enough parking. (a week ago)
