CHKD is a jewel in our community and we are so lucky to have it here in Hampton Roads! I was a patient here as a child and the hospital has helped so many people in my family! They were a key factor in saving my daughter's life over thirteen years ago. The nurses in the NICU were so incredibly kind and attentive! The doctors were so knowledgeable! The entire staff assured us that our baby girl would be fine! And she is! (2 months ago)

My daughter was referred to Dr. Reifschneider by her Pediatrician in Nov. 2016. Our first meeting with Dr. Reifschneider was fine, but after multiple visits the rapport and standard of care began to deteriorate. Several occasions I had attempted to contact Dr. Reifschneider between appointments and calls were not returned within an adequate time frame; especially in relation to having my child admitted to urgent care (May 2018). The attending physician at the time said the medication may have had some interaction in the symptoms my child was experiencing; so of course I did my due diligence to inform Dr. Reifschneider. My daughter's last visit with Dr. Reifschneider was my breaking point. I gave him a list of my child's symptomology and was concerned that the current dosage of medication was inadequate. He then suggested to curb her diet as she had gained multiple pounds in a very short period of time (height weight guidelines placed her average, not overweight). Discussion of weight in front of a female teenager requires a certain amount of finesse and bedside manner, which Dr. Reifschneider does not possess. I proceeded to contact the patient advocacy line and was told I would be contacted by Tina the office manager within the department. When Tina and I spoke over the phone a week later, she immediately began to empathize with me and offered me another provider in which to see within the department. I told her I had previously made the decision to seek another specialist in Richmond, VA and she understood. This afternoon, Tuesday July 17th Dr. Reifschneider calls to inform me that he had requested labs and that my child needs to have labs taken. Confused, I told him that once a dosage changes as it did less than a month ago the wait time for labs was between 4-6 wwks in order to regulate within the body; otherwise the lab work would be extraneous and ultimately pointless. He said he needed to look at his cheat sheet notes to verify what was done a month ago. He called to discuss lab work on his patient of which he didn't take the time to review a file prior to calling. I asked him if he had spoken to Tina and he was unaware that Tina and I had a conversation and that I would no longer have my child under his care. Once I was off the phone with the doctor, I contacted Tina. I asked if she had an opportunity to talk with Dr. Reifschneider, of which she told me she placed an electronic notice in my daughter's file. The followup should have been a phone call or face-to-face contact considering this was a concern/complaint and should have been handled accordingly. She then followed up with the fact that she believed my interaction with Dr. Reifschneider to be a clash of personalities and that I had already changed specialists outside of the practice and there was nothing left to discuss. I sincerely believed the office manager cared more about patient care and relations as opposed to the business aspect. Perhaps this is the result of less-than-humble outward expansion of CHKD in the last eighteen years, but ultimately the patient loses because quality of care is most certainly sacrificed. (in the last week)

My daughter had the surgery that's called transposition of the great arteries that's where the two main tubes on the top of your heart supposed to be Kriss Kross hers or straight up and down they crisscross and put extra skin on and now she runs around like a little 10 year old that she is in doing awesome I had to say thank you Dr. Christian Gilbert M.D. he is a very good heart doctor for babies they found out she had it when she was inside me so thank you for doing a very good job Dr.christmas Gilbert M.D. (a month ago)

Terrible place to bring your child in an emergency! If you really need emergency care call an ambulance or you will NOT receive emergency care. WHAT IS AN EMERGENCY? If your child is throwing up, take care of them at home! It is not an emergency!! If your child is bleeding profusely, and you can't stop the bleeding, then go to urgent care. This is not a hang out place for people who don't know how to parent! Get a Dr. For your child by making an appointment like the rest of us! Take a parenting class or don't be a parent. You clog up the ER with non emergencies so those with real emergencies cannot be seen in a timely manner. 1st time parents of infants... OK... ER- limit the use of the ER to actual emergences or you cannot work as you are intended! Make some rules. Make a sick side that provides parenting classes and a REAL emergency side. Provide a separate food bank for those just coming to eat. 6 +Drs. Don't need to GAWK at a trauma! How may Drs does it take to gawk and do nothing while others are waiting? No concept of priority. Your child's appendix could rupture while you wait for kids to vomit and Drs. to stop gawking and get to work. Your child could die. Get an EMT to assess first before you take an ambulance ride in because they will not even asses your child for hours. You will take your child in 6 or 7 times and have to yell at them before you get a diagnosis for a serious life threatening disease currently killing your child. True story. (a month ago)

This"hospital" didn'td do anything but tell lies about patients! They need to be shut down and the criminals working there need to be in jail! Dr. White is a slanderous liar who needs to be behind bars! (a month ago)
